Horrid Henry adds to cast

Richard E. Grant, Rebecca Front join 3D pic

A slew of Brit thesps, including Richard E. Grant and Rebecca Front, will join topliner Anjelica Huston in the cast of 3D kids’ pic “Horrid Henry: The Movie.”

Pic, which is being launched at AFM by international sales agent Protagonist Pictures, also adds Parminder Nagra (“ER”), Noel Fielding (“The Mighty Boosh”), comedienne Jo Brand, Mathew Horne (“Gavin and Stacey”) and Prunella Scales (“Fawlty Towers”) to its cast.

A string of new, young stars will also join the pic with Theo Stevenson cast as Horrid Henry.

Blighty’s Vertigo Films, the outfit behind “Streetdance 3D,” which went on to gross more than $40 million worldwide, will produce “Horrid Henry” alongside Novel Ent. Pic is based on the hugely successful children’s property of the same name created by scribe Francesca Simon.

Pic is helmed by Nick Moore, who directed 2008’s “Wild Child” and has mostly worked as an editor in biz, editing titles such as “Love Actually,” “The Full Monty” and Harrison Ford starrer “Morning Glory.”

Story, which sees Horrid Henry wage his ever constant battle against the tyranny of adults, is penned for the big screen by Lucinda Whiteley, who also produces with Vertigo’s Rupert Preston. Novel’s Mike Watts and Vertigo’s Allan Niblo take exec producer credits along with Prescience’s Tim Smith and Paul Brett, and Aegis Film Fund’s James Swarbrick.

Prescience, Aegis and the U.K. Film Council are co-funding the $9 million live-action pic, which has just commenced shooting in London and skedded for a summer 2011 release. Vertigo will distribute the pic in Blighty.

“Henry” isn’t the only 3D pic Protagonist will be unveiling to buyers at the AFM market this year: the outfit is also pre-selling the sequel to “Streetdance 3D.”

The sales agent has also secured a string of sales on coveted Toronto buzz title “Submarine.” Richard Ayoade’s coming-of-age comedy sold to Oz and New Zealand (Madman), Benelux (Wild Bunch), France (Mars), Switzerland (Rialto), Poland (Gutek), Middle East (Front Row) and Turkey (Film Pop).

The Weinstein Company picked up domestic rights after pic’s preem at Toronto while Non-Stop napped Scandinavian rights.

Optimum Releasing will distribute “Submarine” in Blighty in 2011.
